I devoured his books when I was a teenager. In those days the west coast edition of the form did not carry fractional times, so I kept them in a ledger. Never bought the calculator though. That is one man that I would like to have met.

Same here GaryG, I would like to have met him. The closest I got, was meeting someone here on PA (Bob) whose very good friend (Andy) used to go to the track with Ray. Andy used the manual pace calc exclusively and did very nicely with it as evidenced by decades of record keeping seen by my friend Bob. Andy and I were getting ready to compare "notes" to see how different the manual calc was to the software when Andy sadly passed away. Sadly that testing never occurred.
