Will Frank Stronach outlive Santa Anita Park

Seems like a fair question with everything going on recently.

Frank is 86.

Will either one or both be around in 10 more years?

it will be interesting to see what happens to racing if all the money and racing is out of socal in terms of the entire industry.

10 years is a good over/under. I would say no to 15 years but I'm on the fence about 10 years.

I think if present trends continue, Santa Anita won't last more than 20 more years.

The Fountain of Youth is more than just a stakes race at Gulfstream Park.

Over/Under is 5 years

2019 is gonna be tough. Purses in the midwest are rising. Churchill was running straight maiden races for 76K. In Ca it's about 52K or 57K. The Midwest has bigger purses and it's less expensive to race there.

Unless they get machines soon, and I seriously doubt it, California is done IMO.

Frank no longer runs the racetracks.
His daughter Belinda kicked him to the curb.
He's suing to get back control of Magna.

cause machines are the answer to racings issues.

I don’t think that Santa Anita will close, but I do feel that the quality of SoCal racing will soon go down to B level racing as the purses in the Midwest and East continue to rise.

Only way to compete with purse sizes.

They've done wonders for Oaklawn Park , Kentucky Downs and Laurel. Laurel doesn't have "machines" but they receive good revenue from the states casino's.

We can't survive as a B level circuit. Our costs are too high.
