The Belmont Derby is not in the top 5 races on the card IMHO.

We are from a different generation. your point is well taken. Grade 1, 2 or 3 could be put in front of any of these races and there is no difference except for the money involved. And some of the other races are way better.
I think the idea was to attract better foreign talent and that fell short this year too. I'm kind of surprised Mendelssohn isn't in here for this kind of lute. I guess they are sticking to the dirt for almost a million less.
