races 1-5 today
$0.50 Pick-4 (1,2,4,5,7,9,10,12,13/2/1/9) Paid $196.75 (4OF4)
$2 Pick-3 (2/1/9) Paid $685.00 (3OF3) ($171.25 on a 50c scale)
$0.50 Pick-5 (4/1,2,4,5,7,9,10,12,13/2/1/9) Paid $1,255.75 (5OF5)
So, even with an obvious single in the 2nd race, if you used all 5 runners in the 7f dirt taken off the turf-route for 2yo filly maidens 5th RACE, and otherwise bet logicals, you got paid if you played the pick-5. Not so much for the pick-4 or the pick-3.
These garbage cards are still sometimes interesting/playable if you are one of the important customers.
If you are a very sharp DD and Pk-3 player, you are kind of in nowhere land when it comes to the garbage cards that were either affected by weather or have races intentionally carded with 6 or 5 horses.
= Either get a 2nd job and play pick-5s like the real customers, or wait until actual competitive full fields come to you a few times a year (rare major stakes days and BC) and play those pick-3s, OR cut-back the other direction and just play Win wagers on the one race out of 5 that features a mispriced horse.
