Dayton Raceway was built a few years ago and is without a passing lane.
Interesting enough, Hollywood planned a one mile thoroughbred oval for Dayton and proposed a harness track near Youngstown. The site could not accommodate a one mile track so a 5/8 harness track went in and Youngstown got the thoroughbred oval. This turned out to be a brilliant move as the Central/Southwest Ohio circuit was formed. Scioto runs in the summer 70 miles from Dayton, Dayton in fall/early winter and Miami Valley (30 miles down the road) in the late winter/early spring.
Dayton typically has the lowest purse structure of the three tracks and the Ohio sired stakes have been completed. Dan Noble and Chris Page are the top drivers although Trace Tetrick and Peter Wrenn will come in when Hoosier is not running. Aaron Merriman will come down from Cleveland if Northfield and Meadows are dark. Give extra weight to any horse these five might drive. Jeremy Smith (off to a good start) and Kayne Kauffman are good longshot drivers.
Pools are low so you might get underpaid or overpaid. It seems Northfield is the only Ohio track that has a widely exported signal.
