The Phillies in 1964 had a 6 1/2 game lead with 12 games remaining and folded. Of course in the not so distant past, the 2007 Mets had a 7 game lead with 17 games left in the season, then lost 12 of their last 17 games. Poor Willie Randolph, a great guy, but a not so great manager.
