I too seem to be drawn to and by favorites...and I wonder at this apparently psychological phenomenon...I know that I am so very typical in this respect...there seems to be some weird tendency to back the lower odds horses...
I find myself betting them, in price order, by default usually when I’ve done little handicapping...there is almost a perverse magic in it...we often bet the favorite at low odds thinking that “there must be reasons why the horse is getting hammered at the windows”...
...but I suspect it is just thousands of dupes, like myself, just hopping on this wagon because we have no reason to hop on another...we listen to the “vox populi” because of our constantly reinforced conditioning....
In a very real way, my means of moving forward and staying in this game is doing what the public is NOT doing...which means going against MY OWN CONDITIONING...this is no easy task...
We massively EXPECT the favorites to win and are DEVASTATED when they fail, especially when they fail miserably...
