Maybe he should buy OTB.
He did a lot better over the years than they did!

It's a wonder the OTB did not institute a no stooping rule and hire it's own crew of Scanners. Maybe they will in the future...

when I'm having a big day I always discard a few winners onto the floor for the stoopers.

Would it not be better to send that discarded amount to those that made it possible... like Old Friends or Re-Run instead of the stooper's.

It was meant to be a joke, but I agree with you there.

I get a kick out of leaving odd amount vouchers in the ATM worth < $1 and stand back and watch what unfolds, good entertainment for a few cents.

They made stooping illegal at my track years ago. A "semi pro" stooper (now forced out of business) once gave me some pointers. He said he made most of his money if there was a DQ especially in the last race because most bettors would want to leave quickly at that point and would throw their tickets on the ground in disgust and not wait to see if there was an inquiry. I remembered his words one time when there was a dq in the last race and checked it out. He was right. I found about $20 in a few minutes. But there was competition. More experienced stoopers found way more than me.

That was before the internet betting days when you could get bigger crowds. I doubt there is much action for a stooper (if legal) on weekdays at most tracks today. I don't know if stooping is legal at CD,but I would imagine you could literally clean up on big days there like the KD where high rollers are drinking their mint Juleps and hobnobbing and bettors are packed at the grandstand like sardines. Stooper heaven.

Last week I "stooped" half of my box of losing tickets collected over the past year...got a credit voucher for $8.50.

Can't believe this guy made $500k doing this at OTB for the past decade.

I totally agree. A favorite of mine when I go to the track is to type up some crazy superfecta that costs in the $2000 range. Walk away from the machine and watch these guys literally pile into each other because they see the giant number on one side of the screen as opposed to the $.30 on the other side. I've gotten stuck behind so many of these "businessmen" putting ticket after ticket into the machines and being a general pain in the ace back when I used to frequent the track that this is my revenge. Petty? Sure, but we all need a laugh from time to time.

I met the guy who first started doing the equivalent thing in Vegas for slots. They called it "silver mining," and it was designated as an undesirable activity.

A little off topic.....

...my Mother just came back from a little getaway to a small casino in North Dakota. She was playing slots and noticed there was $9.50 in credits in the maching next to her. She watched the machine for about half an hour and nobody came back, so she played a couple spins and then cashed out about $9.00 or so...

...a little while later, after she had moved on to another part of the casino, security came up to her and asked her to come with them into the back offices. They questioned her about cashing out the machine.

She readily admited what she had done and paid them back the amount she cashed out. I was more than a little shocked when she told this story. It doesn't appear anyone claimed the credits were theirs, just that security was watching for people who take unearned credits!

Anyone ever hear of this? My Mom is more than a little shaken up by the experience and swears she won't be going back to a casion any time soon.
