I used to work with someone who went to a hypnotist to help quit smoking. He was made to vomit if he ever tried to smoke a cigarette. He said it happened about 3 or 4 times where he tried to smoke and then puked but kept at it. It eventually wore off. I can't imagine how strong a smoking addiction is.

Doing Yoga, and back at the prayer and meditation.

I Quit drinking Whiskey and all alcohol! Can I get an Amen and a Hallelujah! If you're out there and you got the booze bug, but you're not drinking, then keep it up my brother.

My goal this week was to get off the diet coke. I was drinking 12 cans a day

I did it. I have not had a diet coke in a week. But water still taste like medicine!
I used to go through a 2 liter bottle of diet coke a day (a lot more economical than the cans) but I'm drinking more water now and am drinking about 1/2 a 2L bottle a day.Add Splenda to the atrocious Florida tap water to make it palatable. That probably interferes with the benefits of drinking the water.

Glad you're making progress on dealing with your issues. The difficulty is that these problems are very real medical issues but because they aren't tangible, others may not have the same understanding/compassion of what you are going through.Of course,it doesn't help that others exaggerate or feign symptoms of these disorders to avoid responsibilities or gain advantages and benefits.

Keep on keepin' on.

Yes, Ralph, but you missed the part about "S.E.N.D...M.O.N.E.Y."

Actually helped a friend about 40 years ago. Hypno'd her three times and told her that she could continue to smoke forever, but...

1. She could only open two packs each day.

2. Every week she had to throw away one more cigarette out of each pack.

A year later, she said that she had decided to stop subtracting cigarettes but now only smoked one in the morning and one before bed.

She said that it completely changed her life, despite still wearing the label "smoker."

It bothered me, I could feel my breathing get going or my heart rate? not sure, maybe my head?.. But I feel it. I just sit there, concentrate on chilling out. Nobody picks up on it, its in my head.

I can count how many times I have been on an airplane on one hand. My airplane horror story is waiting on the tarmac to take off with a full plane. I did have an aisle seat toward the front. For some reason there was about a 10 min delay after taxing into position and they turned the air conditioning and ventilation system off. It became hot and stuffy which I can't stand even when I have a lot of space around me. Another problem with cramp spaces is an inability to sit still. I have a fused lower spine and constantly have to shift position to remain comfortable.

Fortunately an ability to drive long hours on little sleep some what counteracts my aversion to flying. I have no problem driving 18-20 hours a day. Fortunately I have no desire to visit foreign countries and Hawaii never looked that exciting.

I have had mild claustrophobia since I was a small child, ever since I can remember. I am not sure any event caused it.

My understanding is that it is always an event.

I don't think I have any repressed memories. I remember my childhood pretty well, good and bad, and there definitely was plenty of bad.

Everyone has them. The fact that you don't remember is why they're called "repressed."

;-)

I recently discovered some of my own (which I shall not bore you with) while watching a TV show. Shocked me but the memory was quite vivid.

BTW, they can also be complete fiction.

Dave, have you ever read the book The Dynamics - By L. Ron Hubbard. He describes a self help method of hypnotic that uses 'always an event approach'. I read this book for self help purposes not as a foundation for a religion. He describes how to become a 'clear.' It's not for everyone's taste.

I thought memory repression was to forget bad events? Since I think I remember quite a few beatings I got from my dad for nothing, getting hit by a car, a friend accidentally setting me on fire, etc,etc I don't seem to have a habit of blocking out bad events.

I tried to quit smoking many times and never could.
Then I tried hypnosis and it worked, but it took about a month.
That was in the mid 80s and to this day, I have not had an urge to smoke. From the time I smoked my last one. I never wanted another one.You can smoke in front of me and it will bother me. You can blow smoke in my face and it won't bother me.
I actually don't even notice the smell of smoking in the same room. Like it is not there.

Sometime it takes awhile to find the right botton, I would never have imaged you as an easy read.

I'll mention two things. When I was waiting to get drafted (another story) all I could think about was that the army was going to draft me and tell me I was going to be one of the tunnel rats, the guys who were sent on underground search and destroy missions. That scared the crap out of me.

The other thing was the first time I had to do an MRI. I almost passed out. My mantra to get me through it became, just remember a few thousand people were shoved into the tube and they all came out alive. Close your eyes and remember they will let you out when it's over. Good thing since I have to do MRIs every three months for a while.

I never even let them get me all the way in. It was a double whammy I also have pretty broad shoulders that aren't in good shape, it started folding me like a taco and was uncomfortable. I got rescheduled for an open MRI which isn't the greatest but tolerable for me.
