SA R7 ALLW 78K, 1M 1/16 TURF (4:24)

2 LILY KAI 8-1
8 SWEET CHARITY 5-2
6 SHEEZA MILKY WAY 5-1
3 BETTY DRAPER 5-1

PICK: 2 LILY KAI (8-1)
Could get a very nice trip behind the fast speed runners. She ran well for 3rd in her last start in what was likely too short for her. Poor run two back but that was on a soft turf. Trainer showed confidence in bringing her back in a stakes. Has fast work since last. Trip is main advantage.

VALUE: 3 BETTY DRAPER (5-1)
Came roaring home in the 6.5F sprint in her last start. She looks like a distance runner so that was likely a prep for this. Ran well going long in France. Royally bred filly will appreciate added ground.

A) 2,6,8 B) 3,5,7 C) 1,4

R5 MDN CLM 30K, 6F DIRT (3:04 PT)

7 BOURQUE 4-1
2 JUNE SIXTH 6-1
6 RED CARPET CAT 7-2
9 CUT 8-5

PICK: 7 BOURQUE (4-1)
O’Neill is 25% going MSW to maiden clm. O’Neill tried sprint, route, turf dirt and is adding blinkers after being gelded. This is a big class drop for a runner who nibbled with much better company. Works pretty decent at LA. Rider 31% when for O’Neill.

VALUE: 2 JUNE SIXTH (6-1)
Another going MSW to maiden claiming. He comes out of a strong race. Winner ran 6th beaten 5 in the SA Derby. Runner-up ran 2nd at 112-1 in the G2 Rebel at OP in his next start. Blinks on. Expecting speed.

A) 2,7 B) 6,9 C) 4,8

SANTA ANITA 4/21/17

R1 CLM 25K, 1M TURF (1:00 PT)

5 I’MALREADYTHERE 6-1
7 COUNTY LINEMAN 3-1
4 LUCKY J LANE 6-1
1 ON DRAFT 10-1

PICK: 5 I’MALREADYTHERE (6-1)
Hollendorfer dropped him down to get the win last time out. He was easily best when facing a better-than-average field. Has a few good efforts on the grass. 4th in a field of 11 in stakes 3 back was very good run. 2 poor turf efforts came with blinkers off.

VALUE: 1 ON DRAFT (10-1)
Good 2nd four back at 11-1 at DMR but he did get an easy trip on a slow pace. 4th at 20-1 two back was solid but he didn’t run at all last out and finished last. 3 runners out of the race came back to win next out.

A) 5 B) 1,4,7 C) 2,3,6,8,9

R5 MDN CLM 30K, 7F DIRT (3:01 PT)

6 EXCAVATION 5-2
5 PRESSED BY PAUL 2-1
3 KENZOU’S EMPIRE 8-1
9 MIND READER 4-1

PICK: 6 EXCAVATION (5-2)
In last 2 years, D’Amato is 6 for 13 (46%) going from either MSW or high mdn clm to low mdn claiming. Blinks were added two back. Has been gelded since last start. Winner 2 back ran 2nd in G2 San Vicente at 9-1 next. He is taking a big class drop.

VALUE: 3 KENZOU’S EMPIRE (8-1)
Woke up with blinkers two back. He got to the lead and held on gamely for 2nd. Ran the same race in last but the winner was too good, beaten just couple of heads for 2nd. Sharp works. Delgadillo back aboard.

A) 6 B) 3,5,9 C) 4,7,8,11

SANTA ANITA 4/23/17

1 OPT CLM 75K, 1M TURF (1:00)

3 PATENTAR 3-1
1 UP WITH THE BIRDS 9-5
5 FRANK CONVERSATION 2-1
4 GUSTNADO 9-2

PICK: 3 PATENTAR
Someone is going to have to sit the golden trip behind the cheap speed. This one ran within two of :46.4 half mile speed in last and that is good enough to secure a good early spot. Back to Bejarano who was up in the last win at 9-1 at this distance. Most recent start was simply a prep for longer.

VALUE: 1 UP WITH THE BIRDS
Winner of a Grade 2 at WO six stars back. Nibbled with much better in many of the starts before and after. Moves from one good outfit to another. Likely won’t be at his best for a race or two. Will run on late.

A) 3 B) 1,5 C) 4

1 MSW 54K, 1M TURF (1:00)

10 MY AUNT TILLIE 4-1
5 STARLITE STYLE 5-2
3 TAHITIAN LAGOON 8-1
1 EASY SONG 7-2

PICK: 10 MY AUNT TILLIE
She added blinkers in her most recent start and it produced a career best effort. She has been very wide in most of her starts and that doesn’t look to change here while drawing the widest post. She had an easy drill since last out. Elliott stays up. Will be right there.

VALUE: 3 TAHITIAN LAGOON
She got in tight two back when she shipped in from Northern California, added blinkers and came down the hill. This was following a start where she missed the break. Ran even vs many of these in last. Rider is having a big start to 17. Decent works since. Late run.

A) 1,3,5,10 B) 2,6 C) 4,7,9

6th SANTA BARB-G3 100K, 1M 1/2 TURF (3:37)

1 ESTRECHADA 7-2
8 EVO CAMPO 7-2
2 PLACE DES VOSGES 3-1
3 DRESSED TO A T 8-1

PICK: 1 ESTRECHADA (7-2)
Connections thought enough of this mare to try here in a G1 and G2 in 2 of her last 3 starts. The race in the middle was superb. She ran a strong closing 2nd at 57-1, made up ground on slow fractions. Winner came back to win a G2 and close in a G1 at KEE.

VALUE: 3 DRESSED TO A T (8-1)
Nice win two back over a softer field. Ran 3rd in the 101k stakes on dirt in her recent start but the fractions were too slow. Was steadied pretty sharply three back when in the same race as the top choice. Would expect to see her rolling strong very late.

A) 1 B) 2,3,8 C) 4,5,9

7 OPT CLM 20K, 6.5F DIRT (4:01)

7 PRIME ISSUE 7-2
3 REAL BIG DEAL 10-1
1 JIMMY BOUNCER 7-2
5 OLD MAN LAKE 8-1

PICK: 7 PRIME ISSUE (7-2)
Miller is 7 for 13 (54%) including 5 of his last 6 with a long layoff comebacker who won their last start. The wins at odds of 21-1, 16-1, 14-1, 9-1 to name a few. The connections obviously like this one. They claimed him a few times. Working nicely.

VALUE: 3 REAL BIG DEAL (10-1)
Hasn’t been out since last May when he came to a walk at LRC. Before that, he’d run 3 straight very good races. Loved his win at this distance to break his maiden. He’s working well for sharp connections.

A) 1,3,7 B) 4,5 C) 2,6,8

GOLDEN GATE 5/14/17

RACE 5 MSW 26K, 1M 1/16 TURF (3:17)

3 FUNGIBLE 4-1
2 MINI BAR 5-1
1 CAPE NELO 6-1
7 BRAHMS FOREST 3-1

PICK: 3 FUNGIBLE (4-1)
Trainer is 6 for 10 in the exacta with 1st timers in MSW that are 3YO or older. His breeding is all turf. Sib, Bigger Picture, is 650k turf winner (won the John Connelly on turf) and full sib, Gung Ho, ran 3rd in 2012 Blue Grass. Check betting for clues.

VALUE: 2 MINI BAR (5-1)
Pressed an honest pace in his first try at a longer distance last out and he faded a bit in the lane to 3rd. Runner he ran with in the early going faded to 7th. Sib to the winner of ’15 Elkhorn on turf, Unitarian.

A - 1,2,3 B – 5,7 C – 4,6

PIMLICO 5/19/17

RACE 8 HILLTOP 100K, 1M TURF

5 COMPELLED 3-1
3 VICTORY TO VICTORY 5-2
10 CHUBBY STAR 12-1
11 SWEEPING PADDY 12-1

PICK: 5 COMPELLED (3-1)
War Front filly should have a perfect race flow to work into. There seems to be enough speed to set up a fast pace. Nice turf pedigree (G1 winner Septieme Ciel is in the female tree). When Proctor works strong like this, take note. 2nd in last won a G3 next.

VALUE: 10 CHUBBY STAR (12-1)
Thought the win she comes out of is the best race of her career. She was very game to get up late over a foe from this race. Trainer winning at a high clip this year and is 50% when Ortiz up. Should get a great journey.

A – 3,5 B – 4,10,11 C – 1,2,7,12

7 MDN CLM 100K, 5.5F DIRT

7 TAP ON A STAR 6-1
6 SETTLE DOWN EILEEN 5-2
1 RUNNIN FOR TUITION 4-1
3 MOON KITTY 7-2

PICK: 7 TAP ON A STAR (6-1)
Did little running in the debut. Got into a bit of trouble at the start of that race. There were 4 next out winners in that field and it included the 2nd place filly who won the BC Juv. Dam was a solid stakes winner. Working very strongly.

VALUE: 1 RUNNIN FOR TUITION (4-1)
Ran basically the same race in both of her two starts. Was hammered down to 8-5 in the debut as the word was out that she had speed. 5-1 in the stronger MSW in last and she hung around for a long time. Gets the rail. Will lead this.

A – 6,7 B – 1,3,4 C – 2,5

8 MDN CLM 75K, 6.5F TURF

8 PERFECTION TALE 12-1
9 RAFTER ONE 5-1
10 MILHAUD 4-1
1 SECRET TOUCH 4-1

PICK: 8 PERFECTION TALE (12-1)
Grandsire on the female side was a G1 winner of 1.5M on the grass. He has a few big names in the pedigree (Tale of Ekati and Sky Beauty). Last time this trainer had a mdn clm 75k on the grass it produced hand-ride win. Nice price.

VALUE: 9 RAFTER ONE (5-1)
Gets a big rider change to the top jock here at Santa Anita. Has nibble with a few good MSW groups and tries 6.5F on turf for the 2nd time. Went way too fast in the first try two back. Nice set of drills. At same price he was bought.

A – 8,9,10 B – 1,4 C – 2,3,6

Race 3 DAYTONA-G3 150K, 6.5F TURF

5 HOME RUN KITTEN 5-1
6 STORMY LIBERAL 6-5
1 AMBITIOUS BREW 5-2
2 BLACKJACKCAT 6-1

PICK: 5 HOME RUN KITTEN (5-1)
It appears in this small field that the 2 bookending the field might go out in a fast pace. This one is the closer of this field and could get the perfect set-up. He’s run well fresh and has done well on the SA turf. Is working pretty well.

VALUE: 2 BLACKJACKCAT (6-1)
He might be picked last in this field of 4 but he could easily win this. He has a lot of run, tactical speed and will be in the golden seat behind a speed duel up front. 1 for 1 at this distance when he broke maiden here last year. Late run.

A – 5,6 B – 1,2 C
