Race One:
GYPSUM JOHNNY finished 3rd w/energy in his last in a rail-skimming stretch-trip. He has faced better. This gelding is now contending at a level where he can be a factor. Jose Ortiz for Jeremiah Englehart. Most playable.
PROFESSOR SNAPE won the April 26 Gypsum Johnny race. This Stay Thirsty-bred gelding figures to take a lot of “do-re-mi”. Manny Franco reprises for Rudy Rodriguez. Logical choice.
MAIMO succumbed to a rail-skimming Toohottoevenspeak a couple weeks ago on a sloppy track. I believe the key here is the slight “turn-back”. That should help. “The bug,” Ben Hernandez, reprises for Gary Gullo.
REGALIAN is also cutting back. His trainer, Tom Morley, is adding blinkers. This Speightstown-bred will need “to get into the game,” earlier if he’s to be “a contendah”. I’m looking more at a minor award.
SOL THE FREUD is taking a sharp drop down the claiming ladder. Is that going to be enough for this veteran gelding to prevail? Frankly, I have my doubts. Oh, this 8-year old can grace the tote. Yet, I’m looking more at the possibility of a 2nd- or 3rd- place finish. Did anyone say: “Back-wheel”? Rajiv Maragh is in the irons for trainer Ricardo Legall.
