SAD NEWS - Michael Pizzolla has passed away

ar ValueCapper and Friend,

It is with the deepest regret that I inform you all of the passing of our teacher, our mentor, and our dear friend, the inimitable Michael J. Pizzolla.

Though he had warned of health issues earlier this summer, this news has been a terrible shock to those near him, as I'm sure it is to all of you.

I would humbly ask that we all keep Michael, his wife Kim, his mother Rose, and brother Anthony in our thoughts and prayers.

At a time like this, it is difficult to put into words the emotions we are all feeling. I personally take solace in knowing that I am a better person for having known and worked with Michael. Yes, I learned a lot about the art of ValueCapping horse races, but I learned far more from him about ValueCapping the game of life: thinking unconventionally, asking the right -- and sometimes controversial -- questions, and insisting that the reward outweigh the risk.

More will be said in the days ahead, but please know Michael's wish was for this community he built to continue on, long after he had gone. We have lost the irreplaceable, so it is up to us to carry the torch he has lit, fueled by the wisdom he has imparted to us.

It absolutely breaks my heart to hear that the man I learned so much from has passed away! I send my condolences to all the ValueCapper and Black Magic users and I would like to tell Michael thank you for changing the way I play the races!...

Very Sad Indeed!
I too learned a lot about pace handicapping from Michael!
He always responded to emails and questions! He was quite the character and very charismatic as well. I will miss his race rants and his consistant reasoning for sticking to value plays. I have learned to pass more races than I play and that has helped my bankroll over the long run! He will be missed and my condolences to his family and friends!

Very sad day for horseplayers. One of the greats, whose motto, "let the bet make you" , was a key phrase for many of his followers. He had a very enthusiastic approach to the game. And, of course, many, many stories to tell. He will be missed. And. his memory will live on as one of the great teachers and mentors on the game.

Sad to hear. I never met him, but I enjoyed his book quite a bit. Always sorry to lose a horseplayer.

Very Sad news. I’ll never forget when Michael told me NOT to buy Black Magic because I was too small a bettor. He always responded to my Emails about handicapping .
Rest in Peace Michael

RIP

I'm saddened by the news and remember us talking in Red Rock Casino about books and handicapping. He signed my Handicapping Magic book. RIP Michael

I believe he was 68 turning 69 in December. His mind was still very sharp! His last post on his wizards forum was on August 23rd. He said "I have been read the riot act by two medical professionals and a particularly surly Wizards' Forum moderator about something called bed rest." No words on him being very sick or even being in the hospital. He absolutely changed my way of thinking and made me the value player I am today!
