There is no shortage of bad drivers/trainers and questionable decisions in harness racing, we have questionable drives by many drivers most nights....I watched McNair take a horse that normally does not run on the front right to the lead and does the first qtr. in 25.4 and sets it up perfectly for the longest shot on the board to get up and beat the heavy favourite....the exactor paid over 600 bucks I am willing to bet there were lots of happy people in the barn after that race! Fillion is no different than any of the other drivers but he wins 49% and is ITM at 87% on favorites which is better than the top 3 drivers at Mohawk...

Personally I have stepped back a bit from harness racing in the last few weeks because of some questionable stuff.....I thought the regulators cleaned it up a bit but there is still lots of room for improvement!

One of my biggest pet peaves is a trainer running horses in a race purely as a training mile...it happens far too often for my liking!

To be perfectly honest with you.....the trainer putting a horse in to "train" I've found usually
happens in nine or ten post.....sit...then wail out a fast second half....hoping for good spot on gate next start...I've come accustomed to recognizing the instances before hand to a high degree.....it's weighing the angles....no shortage of angles however....Fillion is the worst on lead....OR MORE BLATENT THEN OTHERS.... LIKE A BOX OF CHOCOLATES.......
FORREST WOULD SAY....never know what any particular night will play out.....

I can tell when a lot of speed upfront....is probable....or vice versa..... tendencies of
Drivers.....trainers...etc etc etc.....it all crunches out a go for it ...or....stay away from stance.. watch Zeron tonight in 3rd out of nine hole.....he's leaving for lead or tuck in
Upfront...... He spent 50k. Few weeks back to claim horse.....with very limited dividends
That is an angle..,.and horse upfront against these hitting board very probable.....

See what happens...... I wager both Standardbred and thoroughbred.... I prefer harness

I have to totally agree with this post, Mohawk seems to be ether dead caulk or bridge jumpers there's no in between. That long final quarter seems to allow a lot of strange finishes. The driver colony except for a couple is B track level.

Zeron has retired for all practical purposes with a total of 7 drives to his credit as of 1st Jan 2024 with 0 wins 0 2nd and one 3rd.

He now operates a small barn and uses a catch driver whenever he has a live horse.

Your right, but this one of the things that is wrong with the harness game...the casual Mohawk patron does not know this and they also don`t know when a trainer is entering his horse for little training jog around the track...more seasoned people can usually figure out and avoid these situation...but people are handing over their money and they deserve better!
