Haikal fits the Commanding Curve style. Good closers sometimes get overbet while sometimes get overlooked. Probably not a true bomber but could be a 20-1 on the tote.

I'm going to say the UAE winner underneath, I hate betting on the UAE horses but he has 2 good races at CD. Odds should be >20-1.

outside of the top 5 or super seven i would look for a horse with some tactical speed that had some sort of plausible excuse or problems.

i still envision the figure horses there but war of will fits this. the horse should be very juicy in the exotics as well.

I said underneath, no way he wins but could hit in the super.

by "could" you mean since he's in the race.

seriously though,.....up until the last couple of big preps it actually looked like a wide open event.....not even considering peanut butter parfait.

sadly, not only is it not wide open it maybe more polarized than ever. which is actually saying quite a bit considering how chalky things have gone for several years.

not only are the top 5/7 better and faster, they possess the ability to get in position. the closers have little chance and many other horses won't even be able to keep up.

right now it's pretty easy to eliminate half the field right off the bat, and the middle top 10 with minimal overlap.

peeps should relish the fact that the exacta might be 30-75 bucks with the top 5 horses.

Used to be a hot post. I'm not sure any have hit the board the past eight years. Firing line drew the 10 but ended up starting from the 9.

The hottest program number in last eight years is the . Two wins, three show, and a fourth.

Haikal could clunk up. Country House is similar as well.

Plus Que Parfait could as well.
I was against him after he got a dream trip in the Kentucky Jockey Club, but he did a nice job of chasing down the win in the UAE. Wasn't a top prep, but he seems to be an opportunist.

What about the Japanese horse? Master Fencer? He may take a bunch of Japanese money and not actually be a big price.
But if he is a big price, he's mildly intriguing. He's a closer. Hasn't done anything other than run with the race flow (maybe this should be in the 'pace collapse' thread).

Country House I think will be too far back with not enough kick, Plus Que Parfait closed slow in the UAE Derby if you look at the times and even compared to previous years UAE derbys... Not only that he hardly separated himself from Gray Magician which is nothing special. Maybe if he ran off but we've seen these two on US soil and I doubt both improved significantly thus if one couldn't separate you toss both easily.

The Japan horse wasnt even a dominate horse in Japan, good luck shipping in against the top of our crop...

I'm not a PQP fan, but comparing times to previous UAE Derbys is shaky ground.
