XP Computer is Still Running
I bought this thing back in 2006.
Paid about $2000 for it at the time . . .
Pretty amazing in my opinion.
It's days may be numbered, but I'm impressed.

I am using three of them still.
I have a W10 laptop, but am not interested at all in getting it set up and running. Probably take me three days to download all the updates.

Tom,
Do yourself a favor and go get this cheap (like $5) add-on that makes Win10 look like Win7.
Start 10 from Stardock
I use their product, Start8 on my Win8 machine.

Tom,
Ditto to the XP & three.
In the past five months I've scanned nearly 7k in photo negatives using a 2002 XP machine (2d hard drive & Blu Ray Burner (Triple Layer)) with a scanner that costs half the 2002 price of the computer.
Unable to get any AV software (more than two years now) for my XP's because the scanners OCR software will not function with SV3 (I'm using SV2).
Two Malware software's still function and get updates.
Unable to locate a current aftermarket Firewall that will function with SV2 either.

I still use the same computer (Vista) that I bought in 2007. I've never loaded it with stuff, movies, music, ect. I watch YouTube and browse a lot (no porn). I remove the cover and blow the dust out twice a year and keep everything updated. A few services don't support Vista any longer and can't use anything newer than IE9. I'm happy with it though and simply refuse to replace it. Only worry the fan motors might die one day, though I've heard they can last a very long time.

Marshall,
Fan motors are cheap (and simple) to replace and crucial.
Any comp store that sell used parts offers boxes of them they've pulled from old machines.
Reluctant to buy a used on online due to difficulties in matching, however they (used) are cheap online.
BTW, I's encourage you to abandon IE9 and convert to Firefox.
My XP-32 with SV2 may only go to IE8 and I stopped using IE for anything 8-10 years ago.

My oldest laptop got 'disabled' from what I suspect was a Microsoft automatic update a few months back. I have been trying to turn off all of my 'automatic updates'.

I honestly don't understand the resentment against Win10. It's the most stable, best MS operating system I've ever seen. I know people hate on MS, but really, if you're using a PC purchased within the past few years and Win10, I don't see what there is to complain about...

My Dell Dimension desktop, running Windows XP until the end, gave me good service from 2004 up until just a few months ago. Now running a new Dell laptop with Windows 10 and I love it.

In short, you cannot turn off the telemetry in Win10, and the update scheduling -- and the updates themselves -- are a mess. Win10 isn't any more stable than Win 7 or 8; about the only positive thing you get is DirectX 12 and the fact that support (such as it is) will last well into the next decade.
I cringe when I think of companies like M$, Facebook, and Google collecting data for using their services. Win10 is the worst OS ever in that regard.

I absolutely, totally agree. Even trying to use keystrokes to save files to a specific folder is difficult ... they want everything to go to their cloud service. And, the data gathering ... As an accountant, when I am forced off of Win7, I will probably retire. Win10 is horrible for my needs.

Mike,
Am I understanding correctly?
Is Windows Explorer and/or My Computer no longer part of W10?
