Reich and economists at the left-leaning Economic Policy Institute also criticized the report as not properly accounting for Seattle’s economic boom, which they say is causing the shift from lower-paid to higher-paid jobs. In other words, less people are working less hours at low paying jobs because many of them have graduated to higher paying jobs.
I'm curious how the Economic Policy Institute tracks when people transition from a low paying job to a higher paying job.

So you red states, when are you going to stop being welfare queens? I want some of my tax dollars back.
everybody knows how distorted that list is. take ND for example. If you remove the air bases and farm program we wouldn't even be on the list lol. but nice try though.

New York is experiencing similar problems.

Quote:
The New York restaurant industry is slowing down, adding fewer jobs and shedding eateries amidst recent hikes in the minimum wage.

The Empire State lost 1,000 restaurants last year and the number of jobs as cooks, servers and dishwashers grew by an anemic 1.4 percent. That’s a far cry from the 4.4 percent annual growth the state’s eateries enjoyed from 2010 to 2015, according to the Employment Policies Institute, a nonprofit research group.

Military bases and farm programs DON'T cost money? Or don't contribute to the state's economy?

The reality is, is that most high income states don't get back from the feds anywhere near what they send to Washington. Most of those states happen to vote Democratic. Most of the states running a surplus in what they receive as opposed to what they send vote Republican. This isn't a one time thing, it's been that way for quite a while.

A lot of it has to do with the fact that red states tend to re-elect incumbents.Time on the job = seniority.Seniority=power. Power=taking care of the folks back home.If that's accomplished with other people's money, all the better.

Kentucky is numero uno on that list. And from what state does the majority leader of the Senate hail from?

Don't most people start at low paying jobs and graduate to higher paying jobs? Once they graduate do the jobs simply vanish into thin air? An economic boom creates not only high paying jobs but also a greater need to provide goods and services which in many cases requires low paying jobs.

The funds sent to bases and things like farm program are figured into those numbers. ND for example, has both. Of course they contribute to the economy. But we have a multi billion dollar surplus here and we are one of the lowest taxed states in the country. The Air Bases don't contribute nearly as much to the economy here as they used to. They closed down the missile wing at GFAB quite a few years ago and deeply cut the missile wing at MAFB. Minot is basically a bomber wing now with a greatly reduced missile wing. GFAB is a drone and refueling base now. The numbers of enlisted members there now is much lower than it used to be.

The farm program is basically crop insurance and food stamps. The crop insurance claims don't add to the economy they just replace money that would have been in there if there wasn't crop claims. It's not new revenue. And we probably have the lowest number on food stamps in the nation here.

The jobs don't vanish, they are shifted to Seattle suburbs as business start-ups in the city slow down and new business growth increases outside city limits. Some hard-hit businesses simply relocate.

This same effect happened recently when Seattle imposed a special sales tax on firearms and ammo. The city will not release revenue data from the tax. Sales in Seattle gun stores dropped, employees were laid off, and at least one dealer closed shop and moved to the suburbs.

It seemed pretty clear to me. The three middle paragraphs, which have Reich or Michael Reich in them are from the article. The others are me-though they do contain material which I read,

Forget about the Presidential election. Seven of the ten most dependent states have Republican Governors. fourteen of their twenty US Senators are Republican . Nine of their ten state Senates have a Republican majority. Eight of ten state houses have a Republican Majority.

That information and its source are classified. Only the DNC and the Russian hackers have access to it.

Proving that Republicans are a lot smarter than Democrats, shifting the burden of funding state government from their own tax payers to those in blue states.

More proof, for those who need it but will likely reject it, that labor is subject to the same principles of price-driven supply and demand as any other commodity.

Denmark has a two-tier minimum wage. There is one wage for those under the age of 18, and a higher wage for those over that age.

At age 18, the minimum wage increases by 40%. As workers approach and pass their 18th birthday, the employment rate drops by a third.
