Kinda like congressional hearings?

Los Angeles County Dist. Atty. Jackie Lacey on Tuesday announced the creation of a task force that will investigate conditions at Santa Anita Park after 23 horses died at the racetrack over a three-month period.

The task force will include deputy district attorneys and law enforcement officials within the D.A.’s office whose goal will be to determine “whether unlawful conduct or conditions affected the welfare and safety of horses” at the park, Lacey said.

Geez, does PETA have political pull in California or what ?.......scary.
I certainly hope that Belinda and her band of idiots didn't think that just a couple weekends of injury free racing was going to make everything go away.
TSG troubles are just starting to warm up..........it's not like they weren't warned.
Hell, all the Stronach Group had to do was read this board(among others) and see the road California racing was heading down........but they ignored every red flag.
Put a Gold Star in the book of Tone Deaf by TSG name.

Imo (and sadly) it's not just the Stronach Group, the alphabet groups of the California horsemen, and the state regulators who TSG and TOC lobbied to get appointed --

If I pull back and look at thoroughbred racing from (say) 30,000 feet --

The same thing (tone deafness) has not only been present - but appears firmly entrenched as a core foundational value (and for years) in just about every racing jurisdiction in North America.

It seems a bit unreal to me that fear of what PETA can do (and not vision from within) might turn out to be the catalyst of change.

Yup.......agree with you.
The horsemen are a common/business sense nightmare.
They're a giant part of the problem.
TSG (and Calif. racing) have backed down from them at every checkpoint......and it's blown up in their face.
The tracks are so fearful that their races won't fill.......they give the horsemen everything they want.........a terrible business plan.......especially considering the track record of the horsemen.
But the tracks have nobody to blame but themselves.
Just take a look at some of the trainer/horsemen behavior they've signed off on:
Takeout hikes.
Abuse of medications........where are the penalties ?
Injectining of blockers in to horses joints.
Lasix usage( remember, a month ago Graham Motion flat out stated that lasix is a performance enhancer).
Shockwave therapy going unchecked.
If the tracks/CHRB had any backbone they would of done the right thing.........but they chose not to.........they deserve every bit of trouble they get.
Plain and simple.........it's TSG/CHRB own fault.
BTW........watch the shortcut/chemical trainers bail on California racing the minute the hot mess they started gets to be too much for their cheating ways.........get ready Kentucky/New York/Florida.........there's some new shooters rolling in to town.

In terms of PETA Jeff.........I'm guessing their true agenda is to have horse racing banned in California..........not to just clean it up.

That and will some now be able to actually race more time than they have been?

Horse ships from SA to Belmont.....are you happy he will get more lasix this time, or worried he will breakdown from running over a sealed track out west?
