Because 99.9% of all gamblers lose in the long run, so you're much better off not getting started in the first place.

By reading sites like this one people know the score. It is a cost benefit analysis everyone must make for themselves. Personally I never stop loving the betting aspect of this game. As Andy Beyer once wrote “it is the ultimate intellectual challenge”. Too bad the people in charge of pricing this game have no clue what a great game they have.

When a young horseplayer scores big, it is always by luck. But the magnitude of the windfall is guaranteed to give him the impression that he is a lot more "skilled" in the game than he really is. It takes much experience to distinguish skill from luck in this game...and vast experience is something that the young gamblers sorely lack. Combine youthful inexperience with the bravado caused by a large bankroll...and you have a recipe for disaster.

Yes, heaven forbid that they get a taste of some success at an early age. It just might have a positive influence in their future endeavors, especially when they recognize that "Luck" is nothing more than Proper Planning Properly Executed.

See? Nitro disagrees with me, so…that proves that I am right about this.
