Wouldn't have mattered one bit. You'd need a helluva lot more than "someone with a gun" to stop this. Rational people don't gun down kids. Rational measures won't work.
Add to the fact you had one or more cops / armed officers in Florida not long ago that chose not to enter the school when there was a live shooter in there.... So someone with a gun does little good.
Arming teachers won't work either. Being married to an educator I can tell you they aren't thrilled with the idea of teachers carrying on campus. My wife was always concerned with litigation happy parents ( there are many), add a weapon to the mix just makes the profession that less appealing.
Facing facts, there's no solution unless you eliminate firearms and that won't happen. It's a sorry reality kids face today.

Let us go back 40 years when I was in High School. Mass shootings and teen suicides were a lot more rare than they are now. Strangely enough guns were easier to get and there were a lot less gun laws than today. Why are liberals blaming the gun for what is a mental health problem? The big difference I see between now and 1978 is a high percentage of kids were not labeled with ADD or whatever and given medication. Since ADD or whatever was invented in my circle of friends and family over the last 20 or so years more than half the boys I knew were medicated. Another big difference is video games, back in the day even the kids who weren't that athletic had PE and played physical games at recess. Now the nonathletic kids and kids that are socially awkward immerse themselves in video games.
Something has changed and it isn't access to firearms.

And this the facts . All the gun laws you could think of won't change a damn thing. Mental illness and how we deal with it is the only way. Anyone with a shred of common sense understands that.

Perhaps we need to scratch the surface and delve a little deeper? Perhaps guns are the immediate symptom, but not the root cause?
How many here who were in school in the 1970s remember school shootings from back then? Were guns more or less plentiful and available back then?
What has changed since then: "parenting"? the "educational" system? society?

How do you go about changing "parenting", or "society"?

It can only start at the individual level in the home. Parents have to take the responsibility to raise and educate their children properly, which will never happen on a broad enough scale today to even be noticed.
And that has to be carried over into the school, with concentration on disciple and real education in subjects like math and English and science. Also not going to happen. How many school shootings take place at private schools?
And certainly nothing will change as long as there are guns to be blamed for the problems.

Nothing will change, PERIOD...whether the guns are blamed or not. Some blame the guns...some blame the parents...some blame the lack of religion in schools...and some blame all things "liberal". Regardless of who gets the brunt of the "blame", things will continue as they've always been...and these types of heinous crimes will always be with us. And...although we are enraged when we first witness them, the truth is that our outrage wears out after a relatively short while, and then life goes back to "normal" again...whatever "normal" is supposed to mean.

I agree. I remember back when Al Gore was running for president and violent video games became the hot issue for a week or two.
At a televised town hall meeting, a woman stood up, one I would stereotype as a typical suburban mom, and said in an angry tone, someone has to take responsibility to protect our children from these games.
Back to the main topic: Bad luck Gus, the shooter has been identified as Dimitrios Pagourtzis.

A kid bringing his shotgun to school on a day he was going hunting later was not out of the ordinary. Brining it out and showing it off was common. Some teachers would come at at recess to look at them.
I think there is a lot to the over-medicating kids to this problem.
You can't outsource parenting to a bottle of pills.

This is a bad example Gus, but the change between then and now is not a plus.
Guess how many school shootings in 1956? There are thousands of pictures like this, even some of kids on the school bus bringing them to school for the designated day they used them.
