Sixteen is perfect. They can have brackets like the Sweet Sixteen in March Madness.
Oops, it looks like they are going to copy Fox and run it in two heats, 10 and 6.

The next debate is hosted by CNN and the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library. They have their own rules. It will be a one event free for all, and they have already invited 16 candidates.

You're right, clocker, but I do vivedly recall 'Pint' Priebus, Karl Rove and other GOP pooh-bahs complaining late last year that there needed to be more 'order' in the 2016 campaign process.
They both called for a change in the number of debates and wanted a specific, limited number of participants. Both of these guys said the reason Romney lost was because too many minor candidates in too debates 'beat him up'.
You can bet that Fox, CNN, and everyone else that has a debate scheduled will gladly abide to any 'suggestions' the GOP establishment offers them.
CNN's Jake Tapper, who will be one of the two hosts, the other being Hugh Hewett, said on a local Philly talk show this Monday that he wants 'more direct questioning by the candidates to one another, such as when Christie and Paul went at it'.
Jesus, if Tapper gets his way, and he will, it will be a real zoo. CNN wants us to think it's more important talking about Megyn's cycle than it is asking Jeb Bush, who raised over $100 million from about 30 people only, what he promised them for all that money.
But that's the media for you, once again providing another disservice to the general electorate and to registered Republicans in particular.

Will the Krackpot Kommentator Kandy Krowley moderate again?
Proper response to her interfering this year is smack her in her big fat mouth!
I have serious reservations about taking anyone seriously if they appear on anything hosted by CNN.

You might have to add Fox News to that list too.

In retrospect, Romney did not man up as Trump would have. He was playing as the former Governor of Massachusetts looking to unseat a sitting President.
It is becoming apparent Donald Trump will rip all who gets into his path.
If he is determined to stay in the critical path "Make America Great Again", it may prove something to see.

Trump has announced that he is going to announce his actual policy plans some time. But not now.
Quote:
Donald Trump says his campaign is prepared to lay out specific policy plans. He's just not ready yet.And in the meantime, he's selling his strong personality and criticizing his rivals, particularly Jeb Bush for a lack of vigor.
"There's no energy there, no energy. We need energy. We need tone," Trump said of Bush during a 50-minute speech to more than 2,000 people at a Republican fundraising dinner in Michigan, his first public appearance since the first GOP primary debate. "We have heads being chopped off because there are Christians in the Middle East. ... The world is cracking up and they're worried about my tone."

Trump keeps mentioning "leverage." Thus a not implausible outcome from his third-party threat might be an elicited promise from the republican nominee to get tough on immigration.

He has a good chance to steal this election while the rest of the hopefuls continue to fall over themselves. Once thought of as a no chance candidate he has now shown he can compete with the politically correct clown base!

I agree.
Trump is a lot of things, but he's not stupid. IMO, not only does he know he can't win, he never wanted to win. He wants to maintain 20%-25% (more if possible) and then deliver his support to the candidate of his choice that will implement policies he really does feel strongly about like trade and immigration.

And appoint him Ambassador to Mexico.

We are at the 2-furlong point of this 1 1/2-mile race. Many horses in the lead at this time can not do the distance.
I tend to agree with Mountainman and classhandicapper that Trump does not expect to win the nomination, but rather leverage his current popularity to a candidate of his liking and issues of personal interest.

He's spending an awful lot of his own money just to be a Kingmaker of another Republican who may not win against the Democrats.
Trump is in it to win it, until he sees he can't win it, or maybe he can.
