Oxygen deprivation was used to execute an Alabama murderer for a crime committed in 1988. This was the first new method of capital punishment since lethal injection was introduced in the early 80s. Amid cries of extreme cruelty etc it went smoothly and the gentleman has met his maker. The injection didn't work in a previous attempt, presumably because of his veins. Florida retired Old Sparky after one customer had a nosebleed while he was dying. I prefer the firing squad. It is cheaper and virtually guaranteed to work
