I have become a believer in Honda 2-stroke engines. I bought a Troy-Bilt at Lowe's with a Honda engine, and it's the best mower I've had in years. And I was a little skeptical at first, because I think MTD now owns Troy-Bilt.

Why would they change the part numbers?
because they changed something in the construction. Maybe went from a smooth to a ribbed belt, etc. I've been a mechanic most of my life. Trust me when I tell you that Napa can fit it for you unless it's shredded. If it is, measure the pulley inside the groove out at the widest point. Then if you take a 14ga. extension cored and wrap it around the pulleys you can measure that and that will be your length. the extension cords sit in the pulley's perfectly to get the right measurement.

Thank you. Good to know. It probably would have saved me a few bucks, but by having it delivered I probably saved 45 minutes of time and wear and tear on my car. That's worth something.

I replaced the belt and also replaced the drive cable. The old cable was probably fine (although it did have a slight kink in it where it got crushed when I folded up the handle bars one winter.

It runs well now. So mission accomplished.

Thanks to everyone who offered advice! That's why I love paceadvantage.com. Lots of experienced people here who know how to solve problems.

A lot of politicians here, too, who know how to solve the world's problems and probably would if they would run for office! But they're too smart and honest to be politicians.

I agree with Ralph. That is great information to know! I didn't know that's how belts were measured.

I guess I'm old school. I carry my own suitcases, shine my own shoes, shovel my own sidewalks, and mow my own lawn.

I think you kind of missed the joke with "Cheech and Chong".

I do the very same as an Average Joe just like you.

Nah. I got it. I'm old enough to remember listening to their LPs.
