It turned out to be a decent card. The limited number of playable Dutch Win bets produced a 51% Profit margin return hitting 2 of 2 races. There were also quite a few Verticals hit with some decent value including 5 Quinellas & 5 Triples.

Race 2 Little Wise Man (8-5) Was unlucky at the draw again, getting the 11 post with the short run to the crooked turn on the backside which causes trouble with his running style. Came running late last time out, and playing that race took too much out of him.

Race 3 True Grit (5-2) Has improved in each of his three lifetime races with all of them at Happy Valley, after running third beaten by a length and a half he drew the outside post with the short run to the first turn at the downtown track. He settled mid-pack but was forced three wide in that first turn when Enjoy Life was unable to get over to the rail in avoidance of clipping heels with Flying Quest. In the turn for home Sam moved him out for running room but unfortunately that was four to five wide without cover, he finished extremely well in the stretch and was only beaten by a length by the 5-1 second betting choice who had a much easier trip.

Race 8 Merrygowin (11-1) After winning his last at Class 4 he picked up enough handicap points which forced him up to Class 3 where he hasn't had the best of times. He broke well but for some reason ridden right into the backs of the front runners by seven pound bugboy Wong entering the first turn, then at the 800 mark on the backside he became rank when he lacked running room and fought the bug for a good while. In the turn for home he shifted out to the three path and then was carried out to the middle of the stretch at the top of it, closed well and only missed by a length to Lucky Girl who was allowed to race nearest to the rail in all three turns.
