When I saw the thread title the first thing I thought of was Amazon Women on the Moon. I am not sure why.

Perfect thread for the Kentucky Derby and the Triple Crown Trail.
Women and fashion at horse racing events has precedent in horse racing history and the formative years of the Kentucky Derby. Here is an excerpt from Hoatling’s masterpiece book, The Great Black Jockeys:
The last year of the decade also saw the most important horse race of the era, a preview of one of the most celebrated events in sports, the Kentucky Derby. Like the modern Derby, it was half horse race, half promoter’s masterpiece. The sporting impresario Yelverton Oliver, last seen revamping the racetrack in the nation’s capital, resurfaced in Louisville, where he renovated the Oakland Race Course and announced Kentucky’s first nationally important race . . . On September 30, 1839 an estimated ten thousand people, half the population of Louisville, converged on the Oakland Race Course, at what is now Seventh and Magnolia Streets in the city’s old section. Two thousand mounted men met in the infield. Others watched from the stands, fences and tops of carriages, from every tree with a decent branch and every hill with a view . . . Oliver had learned the importance of getting the women too. From the late eighteenth century, in fact, every American track operator had realized that no sporting operation would last long without them. Of course, it would never be difficult to get the horse-loving, sports-loving Kentucky women to the track, or for that matter the women of Tennessee, South Carolina, or Virginia – provided it was worth their while.
Women have a place in Kentucky Derby history and a place in the 21st century Kentucky Derby. The Kentucky Derby would not last long without them.
We should honor them.

Of course, considering such a thread may be problematic and time consuming, I stand down and humbly accept any and all decisions made by the owners and moderators.

Restrict it to only photos taken at the race?

I've heard from old timers that women couldn't bet way back when. I did some looking and can't tell if that's a fact.
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
