Any chance Kim is willing to negotiate? I don't think so. Hasn't worked to date.

Not if you get in his face. He will negotiate if he sees he can get something, and then renege on his end of the bargain.
I look for some more saber rattling, or rocket rattling, in the next week or so.

I just don't see the need in kicking the can down the road for another five years like we've been doing for 15 years. We'll need to act sooner rather than later or find ourselves in a lesser bargaining position.

He is exposing Rocket Man to be the fool he is. He tried niceties earlier to no avail.

USS Ronald Reagan in AOO with the 7th Fleet only carrier available. USS John C. Stennis departed San Diego yesterday and currently assigned to EASTPAC but could be redeployed quickly.
Only two carriers currently in the region with the next in the Persian Gulf. Hardly an aggressive posture.

What person in the free world with an IQ above room temperature didn't know that? And what does Trump gain by that?

Then why did Trump feel compelled to "expose" that, and what could he possibly imagine he, or we, could gain from it?

I agree, but the UN is not the place to accomplish that. Or anything else.
China doesn't want Li'l Kim going nuclear, but they like him stirring the pot from time to time. They won't come out strongly against him in public, but should be open to some nice quiet negotiations with us. Unfortunately, Trump doesn't like "nice quiet" anything.

China's foreign Ministry is urging other countries to return to the "spirit" of the six-party talks and seeking more diplomatic cooperation with North Korea.
PDJTrump knows leverage like no one else.

China and France agreed 10 days ago to work together to get the talks restarted. They must have really felt the leverage early.
