Pletcher wins Trainer title at Saratoga

At the beginning of the meet few would give Pletcher a chance to win trainer title at Saratoga. But he did it despite the meet being biased to favor Chad Brown.

Unbelievable!

I know I'm thrilled for the guy overcoming such a tough situation. Having only 2,500 horses it seemed impossible. Way to go Todd.

lmao

Yea, the chess game of scratches and only running when you are going to be 5/1 or less was thrilling this meet between the two super barns, which even the most unbiased observer would admit has hurt the overall quality of that meet.

At least he doesn't make stupid speed figures, he actually does something useful in racing.

must be a family member

Its an accomplishment for him, so good work for his team.

That being said I think the situation is terrible for racing.

I know I'm thrilled. I like to see either one beaten. It's hard to pull for trainers who aren't really training their horses.

Unbelievable!

Have him start LESS horses than some trainers and win it.

No trick in out starting everyone else with the most expensive stock on the east coast.

And busting on what CJ does for a living?

Really?

One could argue that CJ does more for the game than Todd. He certainly does more for the customer.

But why drag Todd into this.

It is you that wrote that nonsense not him.

Classy post.

would love to see

what is the ROI on the horses that Brown and Pletcher have, ie if they paid total $25 million per year for the horses, how much is coming back on that 20 million investment.
RACE 1Pletcher had a 1 mill dollar horse today, out of the money, on a muddy track.
RACe 2- paid 250,000
RAce 3- paid 150,000

Race 6-$ 350,000
Race 9-$330,000
Race 9-$ 600,000

his owners paid $2.5 million on the horses he ran today

Why oh why can't the TRA put together stats like this? The non-thoughtful racing press just looks who's in the top 3 to find their Eclipse finalists every year. It's nauseating. Smaller trainers, owners, jocks, breeders all deserve consideration, particularly in the trainer category where the assistants of Brown and Pletcher are doing as much training (if not more) than the guy's whose name they train under.

NY and CAL horser racing

is almost a billionaire game...if you are worth 1 million dollars, you cannot run a horse in Saratoga...

You might have to go to Sam Houston to run a horse.

In G3 Smarty Jones, Todd started $700K purchase which lost to $90K purchase, not saying it is the be all and end all but...

We could put the trainers in StableAlert and record the horses who start, but I'd really love to have all the horses in the trainers' barns so we can see how many never make a start.
