Amazon Issues
Has anyone had a problem with Amazon on the author / seller side of book sales?

Yes. I sometimes buy books that are advertised as "new"...only to later discover that their condition is deplorable.

I've tried to stop buying from Amazon. They're eating other companies alive, and I want far more choices to buy from than Amazon. The latest victim may be Toys R Us.

I also want more choices to buy from. But when a book at Barnes&Noble costs me $24.99 plus tax, and I can buy the same book from an independent seller on Amazon for $.01 plus shipping...then it's hard for me to know what the "right thing" is for me to do.

I understand. It's just recent that I've begun to look at Amazon in a new light, when they started their delivery business in certain markets. I think they make up 40% of all online sales, which is astronomical. It's downright scary.

It is also driving competitors like Wal-Mart to respond. Looked at from a different angle, shopping at Amazon will give you more choices down the road.

Compromise and use alibris - independent used bookstores and sellers with similar format as amazon

AMAZON More Detail
To explain my question in more detail...... I authored a book on terrorism titled My Days in the Beast which I self published and listed on Amazon in a seller's account. Much to my surprise, having received several excellent reviews, only a minimal number of sales were generated. When after several months I looked at the account I was surprised to see the book was listed as only available from 3rd. party sellers. Of the two 3rd. parties one (Better World Books) was owned by Amazon so I ordered a book from the non-Amazon account and received a brand new copy. Strange?
So I ordered from the Amazon site (Better World Books) and also received a brand new copy. Neither account had ever placed an order for new books in any quantity. Also, when I straight queried "My Days in the Beast" my original listing data appeared describing the book along with the very good reviews AND a price of $500, yes that's FIVE, ZERO, ZERO. However, links to the OTHER 3rd. PARTY sellers at $ 9.95 and $ 11.95 were displayed.
Keep in mind I have no idea how many sales have been made or where the books came from nor have I receive a dime from Amazon. Very strange.

I just searched for your book on Amazon...and there is only one copy listed for sale on the entire site. The book is sold by Better World Books, it's in used-up condition...and it's being sold for $500. But they'll do the shipping for free.

Where are your 'self-published' books printed? I ordered some books last year, and they were 'printed on demand' - not sure how/why....
It would not shock me if Jeff Bozo was stealing copyrights to help subsidize his 'empire'.

The other company was/is Valkyne Distribution and I have the brand new copy received from them. I notice they are no longer listed as a third party.
