Canadian icon, Gordon Lightfoot 1938-2023

You all probably remember many of his great compositions.

The legend lives on from the Chippewa on down
Of the big lake they call Gitche Gumee.

The lake, it is said, never gives up her dead
When the skies of November turn gloomy

With a load of iron twenty-six tons more than the
Edmund Fitzgerald weighed empty

The good ship and crew was a bone to be chewed when
the gales of November came early

Had a string of hits in the 60’s & 70’s.

‘The wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald’ definitely his best.

Chilling melody, captured the tragedy.

Watched a documentary on peacock (I think) about him a few weeks back.

Very sad. Alcohol was his vice. You won’t recognize him …….

Great writer

Making it to 84 is nothing to sneeze at. I was flipping channels on satellite radio and end up listening to a tribute show to Willie Nelson. He just turned 90.

Here's a link to a PowerLine item that goes a little beyond the Wreck of EF.

Clearly a master lyricist.
