The government has to keep the kids locked up for their own protection. If they aren't locked up, the government looses them.

That's the "whatever" that John Kelly was referring to when he said, "the children will be taken care of — put into foster care or whatever."

I'm sure they can't do that without parental consent. That would be a violation of their constitutional rights.

Sorry if the sarcasm was too subtle for you. I'll try to be more literal in the future.

Well obviously, seeing how so many were lost from foster homes, they had to go to the whatever.
Someone failed to provide adequate foster care - either bleeding heart liberals who hid them or the kid themselves were to irresponsible to obey the law and stay put.
A cage is precisely where they belong until the can be sent back home.
How many did YOU volunteer to take in?

I fail to understand the liberal argument here. Illegals are just that. They are criminals regardless how you rate them.
A mother here legally has 3 kids and is dealing narcotics out of her home. The home is raided, the mother goes to jail and is separated from her kids.
The illegal alien is committing a crime, the drug dealing mother is committing a crime.
Anyone wanted for committing a crime when arrested, will not bring their children with them to jail. Why should border hopping criminals receive special consideration to the rule?
Most liberal arguments with most anything are stupid nonsense anyway. This is just another example.

Many libs would argue that our immigration laws are downright restrictive, inhumane and unjust because everyone on the planet has some kind of right (might even be inalienable) to migrate here. This is why so many are in favor of suspending enforcement. )Obama's plan was to totally destroy enforcement, which he tried to do incrementally.)

Except we're not just talking about "illegals" here, we're talking about people and families who are seeking asylum, which they have a legal right to do under both US and international law.

Asylum from what, specifically?

It is complete BS and you know it. Why not seek asylum in Mexico as opposed to traveling over a month and over 2,000 miles on foot to get to the United States?
Obviously they weren't in any danger during their month long trek through Mexico, right?
