It opens tomorrow (26th) and closes before the Derby at 6 PM eastern. I said earlier to toss all Pletcher horses, however, if you are one of those who believe Fierceness has as good a chance at winning the Triple Crown as the Sun has of rising in the East when you wake up then go for it. He is going to be 5-2 in the Derby and if he wins then 4-5 in the Preakness. So, to bet him in the futures you will need 7-1 or more otherwise there is no sense in betting it. You could get better odds betting each race and parlaying it.
If you like Sierra Leone then you really need 10-1 or higher or pass the futures bet. He also won't run if he loses the Derby so it is a two horse parlay again. If you are like me and love Muth then this is where it gets tricky. If you think Fierceness is going to win the Derby then you need 3-1 on Muth for value. For Sierra Leone it is 5-2. Now if you think a bomb is going to win the Derby then 8-5 is a steal on Muth as he will go off at 4-5 in the Preakness. Imagination is 12-1 on the ML. Are you kidding me? That is what he would go off at if either of the top two win the Derby and if a bomb wins then you are looking at possibly 5-2 on Imagination. There is your value!
Finally, most of these horses have odds ranging from 30-1 to 50-1. Sorry, that is way too low to bet. The chances of at least 15 of them beating Fierceness and Sierra Leone and coming back in two weeks and defeating two talented Baffert horses is slim and none. Remember almost all of these won't run back in the Preakness if they lose the Derby. So that is my insight for you all as I see it.
