more Tapeta, yes - but not at CD, or Del Mar for that matter, but where it is needed, double, triple yes ASAP

I'd like to see a Tapeta course in Maryland (hey, what do you know - they ALREADY HAVE ONE!!!) become the new home of the Preakness

I'm in on Tapeta being more widely available.

CDI owns Presque Isle, so it's not exactly anathema to them.

Look at the breakdown data at PID v. other PA tracks. Running the same level of horse stock or possibly worse.

The biases of promoting the Woodbine 'brand', as well as his role of chairman, with associations of success and horse safety, pose a significant conflict of interest..
A red flag that compromises the integrity of this promotion.

That alone is enough to take these promotions with a grain of salt.

I have no information regarding whether or not he also has any stake in Tapeta the company, or in construction processes such as overseeing installation of Tapeta, maintenance of Tapeta etc...

Sure, why wouldn't the most watched dirt race on the planet with the most history, pageantry, and allure carve up their track and make it fake dirt?

i really love hearing when someone is promoting a method or new merchandise. they always tell you what they think is so great.

in the case of synthetic racing surfaces, be careful what they don't tell you! They don't let you know about the injuries that are synthetic surface-related on the rear ends of horses. they never mention how many tibia injuries occur from that surface which often spreads and shatters bones as well. the longevity of the horse is probably not as long as real dirt.

i highly doubt that the man from Churchill Downs is going to be fooled by this article.

Interesting that the opinions here don't mention the statistical differences among dirt, turf, and synthetic surfaces. It's pretty black and white.

"In the Jockey Club Equine Injury Database (EID) for the year 2022, injuries on dirt were 1.44 per 1,000 horse starts. Turf injuries were 0.99 per 1,000. Injuries on synthetic were vastly diminished with 0.41 per 1000. This data shows that synthetic surfaces are 3.5 times safer than dirt and 2.2 times safer than turf. These statistics are compelling in showing the exponential safety of today's synthetic surfaces over dirt and turf."

We all know the stats, they have been discussed here 1000 times.

If Churchill has to go to a synthetic track to "save" racing, you might as well just shut racing down now. It's like moving Olympic track and field to a wet sandy beach to protect the athletes. It's not the same sport. Just end it if that's how bad things are.

Olympic track and field is already synthetic.
